Second session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Pursuant to article 63 of the Convention, a Conference of the States Parties to the Convention was established to improve the capacity of and cooperation between States Parties to achieve the objectives set forth in this Convention and to promote and review its implementation.

Beacon brings the extremely successful conference in Hong Kong to Dubai, and it will be more focused on the Middle East markets. Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organized its third Anti-Corruption Cartoon Competition to observe the International Anti-Corruption Day 2008 (9 December). As a part of TIB’s Youth Engagement and Support (YES) programme, the objective of the competition and this exhibition is to create greater awareness and motivation among the young generation to say NO TO CORRUPTION. It also gives the participants an opportunity to communicate their understanding of corruption and raising voice against this menace. This Exhibition of Cartoon Against Corruption displays cartoons which have received awards and special mention out of 791 entries to the competition by young cartoonists in two age groups of 13-18 and 19-35 years from all over the country.

For the first time, the exhibition will be launched on Facebook which means people can view cartoons just by logging into Facebook. It can also be viewd at TI Bangladesh's website http://www.ti-bangladesh.org/index.php?page_id=420 from November 28.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition of “Cartoon Against Corruption”, will take place at the local Drik Gallery on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 4:00pm Bangladesh time.

The opening ceremony will be preceded by distribution of prizes to young cartoonists who have received award and special mention in the Anti- Corruption Cartoon Competition organized to observe the International Anti- Corruption Day. Lt. General Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury (Retd.), Chairman, Anti-Corruption Commission will inaugurate the exhibition as Chief Guest.

The conference entitled "Strengthening Governance in Asia-Pacific: Public Sector Administrative Reforms and Capacity Building to Improve Transparency and Accountability", organized in New Delhi, India, will be co-hosted by the Network of Asia-Pacific Schools and Institutes of Public Administration and Governance (NAPSIPAG) and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI). Participation will be mainly from the Asia Pacific region, although the Conference is open to participants worldwide

The Conference will be organized with opening and closing plenaries focused on its overarching theme, with separate sessions to address each of four sub-themes

  • Governance Initiatives to Fight Corruption;
  • Improving Government Transparency and Accountability;
  • Strengthening Public Accountability;
  • Engaging women and Involving Civil Society and Media.
